Mounting plate for Outerwings

Variable spans became very much famous during the last years. At first there was only up to 1,50m "ears" to change a 15 m glider into a maschine with a wing span of 18m. After that, the Winglets for the 15m-Version had to be stored. The ends for the 15m-Version without Winglets mostly were laying in the file box in the trailer and were attached only for the road transport in the trailer.

Today there is a larger pallet of outerwings which has to be accommodated in the trailer. Antares offers its Elektroglider with a two-piece 18m wing and provides in addition the outerwings for the span enlargement on 20m. With the new Discus Schempp-Hirth goes another way. The Discus-2c is already equipped for the 15m version with 1,50m outerwings. For the 18m version additional 3.00 m long outerwings have to be accommodated. Alexander Schleicher has done the same. The new construction ASG-29 was designed with a span by only 11m. The outerwings will possess a length of 2,00 and even 3.50 m. Similar constructions are going to be offered by DG

With the mentioned explanations and examples we want to express that not only the glider manufacturers do vary and modify their products. We as one of the nameful manufacturers of sail plane transportation trailers have to adjust ourselfs again and again to the new conditions. This does not only concern wing geometry.

At the current time we can only show and/or indicate photos and prices for the so far common outerwings. As soon as we get closer information of the manufacturers, we will again think about the accommodation of the outerwings.

Here outerwings of 1,50 m length are to be stored in the trailer. For this the before produced holders are padded and adapted on the appropriate outerwing.

As you can see, the mounting plate is built in such a way that an optimal form is reached. Too much air between the mounting plate and the outerwing may causes damages.

Here you can see clearly: The hook at the mounting plate. That prevents a movement of the outerwing.

Here we demonstrate, how the mounting plates are to be attached in the lift top. For the standard outerwing length of 1,50m we already have plentifully experiences.

The finished mounting plate built in the lift top. After the installation the entire range should be padded with carpet to avoid possible damages while the removement or replacement of the outerwings.
